Click any of the “Schedule a Consultation” buttons on our website and complete the required information. A member of our team will reach out to arrange an on-site lawn consultation to evaluate your property and discuss your goals.
Phase II – On-Site Lawn Installation Assessment
One of our specialists, often the owner with 30+ years of landscaping experience, will visit your property to assess soil condition, grading, drainage, sun and shade exposure, and existing terrain. We’ll discuss your preferences for lawn type, including hydroseeding, sod, or traditional seeding with blanket straw, and plan the best approach to achieve a healthy, vibrant lawn.
Phase III – Soil Conditioning & Lawn Preparation
Before installation, we perform comprehensive soil conditioning to ensure your lawn establishes quickly and thrives. Using equipment such as a tractor, skid steer with a power rake, or a rock hound, we prepare the soil by grading, removing debris, breaking up compacted areas, and leveling the surface. This process creates the ideal environment for your lawn installation, ensuring a durable, lush lawn that grows evenly and remains healthy in Northeast Ohio.
Power Raking
Great for Leveling: Smooths out uneven areas in your lawn, creating a more uniform surface that’s ideal for sod, seeding, or hydroseeding.
Loosens Dirt for Seed-to-Soil Contact: Breaks up compacted soil and creates a loose, friable layer, allowing grass seed to make better contact with the soil and germinate more successfully.
Windrows Large Rocks and Debris: Moves stones, sticks, and other debris into rows for easy removal, preventing damage to equipment and improving lawn appearance.
Promotes Healthier Lawn Growth: Improves airflow, water penetration, and nutrient absorption, resulting in stronger roots, thicker grass, and reduced patchy areas.
Rock Hounding
Removes Rocks and Debris: Extracts stones, rocks, and other objects that can interfere with lawn equipment and grass growth.
Creates a Smooth Lawn Surface: Ensures the area is even and level for a professional-looking lawn, which is crucial for sod or seeding.
Prevents Equipment Damage: Protects lawn mowers, aerators, and other equipment from damage caused by hidden rocks.
Encourages Even Root Growth: Eliminates obstacles in the soil, allowing roots to spread uniformly and develop a strong foundation.
Reduces Long-Term Maintenance: A rock-free lawn is easier to mow, fertilize, and maintain, helping prevent bare spots and uneven growth.
Phase IV – Adding Topsoil & Finish Grading
After soil conditioning, we add high-quality topsoil as needed and carefully adjust the grade to ensure proper drainage and a smooth surface. The team performs finish grading and leveling to create an even, stable foundation, providing the best possible start for hydroseeding, sod, or traditional seeding with blanket straw.
Adding Topsoil
Provides Nutrient-Rich Soil: Supplies essential nutrients and organic matter needed for new grass to grow quickly and establish deep roots.
Improves Drainage: Helps prevent water pooling or erosion, creating an environment where grass thrives.
Levels Uneven Areas: Smooths out dips, slopes, and low spots, giving your lawn a flat, even surface that’s ideal for play, landscaping, and aesthetics.
Enhances Success of Lawn Installation: Ensures hydroseeding, sod, or traditional seeding with blanket straw takes root properly and grows evenly.
Supports Long-Term Lawn Health: Gives the lawn a strong foundation for healthy, vibrant growth for years.
Phase V – Lawn Installation with Proper Fertilization
We install your choice of lawn: hydroseeding, traditional seeding with blanket straw, or sod, combined with proper fertilization to promote strong root growth and long-term lawn health. Each method is executed with precision to ensure fast, even growth and a vibrant, durable lawn that enhances your landscape and provides a beautiful, functional outdoor space for years of enjoyment.
Advantages of Hydroseeding
Fast, Even Coverage: Applies seed, mulch, and fertilizer in a uniform slurry, ensuring consistent germination and rapid coverage of large areas.
Promotes Strong Root Growth: The mulch layer retains moisture and protects seeds, helping roots establish quickly for a healthy, durable lawn.
Cost-Effective for Large Areas: Covers more ground faster than traditional seeding, reducing labor costs while delivering professional results.
Reduces Erosion: The mulch layer helps hold soil in place on slopes and uneven terrain, preventing washouts.
Customizable Seed Mixes: Allows selection of grass varieties suited to sun, shade, and soil conditions, tailored for Northeast Ohio lawns.
Ideal for New Lawns or Renovations: Perfect for new home lawns, large landscapes, or areas needing repair, giving faster results than hand seeding.
Advantages of Seeding with Blanket Straw
Protects Seeds: The straw blanket shields seeds from wind, rain, and birds, keeping them in place for better germination.
Retains Moisture: Maintains soil moisture, which is critical for successful seed growth, especially in the early stages.
Stripped of Weeds: Helps reduce weed growth by giving your new lawn a clean, fertile foundation for healthy grass establishment.
Pinned Down to Avoid Wind: Secured in place to prevent the straw and seeds from blowing away, ensuring consistent coverage and germination.
Great for Extreme Slopes or Ditches/Swales: Ideal for areas that receive more water than normal, preventing seed loss and helping new lawns establish on challenging terrain.
Advantages of Sod
Instant Lawn: Provides an immediate, lush, green lawn, eliminating the wait for grass to grow from seed.
Reduces Erosion: Quickly stabilizes soil, making it ideal for slopes, hills, or areas prone to runoff.
Establishes Quickly: Roots begin growing into the soil immediately, resulting in faster lawn establishment compared to traditional seeding.
Uniform Appearance: Delivers a consistent, professional-looking lawn with even color and texture.
Weed Control: High-quality sod is typically free of weeds, giving your lawn a clean start.
Durable and Resilient: Can handle foot traffic sooner than seeded lawns, making it ideal for homes with active yards or play areas.
Great for Challenging Conditions: Works well in areas where seeds might wash away, fail to germinate, or struggle to establish.
Most Costly Option: While sod provides instant results, it is the most expensive lawn installation method compared to seeding or hydroseeding.
Phase VI – Final Walkthrough & Lawn Care Guidance
Upon completion, we conduct a final walkthrough to review your new lawn and ensure it meets your expectations. We discuss proper watering for success and offer our temporary watering services to help establish your lawn if needed. Once everything is approved, the final payment is collected, completing your lawn installation project.
Watering: Frequency and Importance
Essential for Establishment: Proper watering is critical for seed germination, root development, and the overall success of a new lawn.
Daily in Early Stages: Newly seeded or sodded areas often require light watering 1–2 times per day to keep the soil consistently moist without oversaturating.
Gradually Reduce Frequency: As grass establishes, reduce watering frequency but increase depth to encourage deep root growth.
Avoid Overwatering: Too much water can wash away seeds, cause shallow roots, or create fungal issues.
Adjust for Weather: Increase watering during hot, dry periods and reduce during rainy spells.
Phase VII – Post-Installation Care & Reseeding
A new lawn usually needs reseeding at least once after installation to establish fully. We perform reseeding using equipment such as an aerator, slit seeder, or roller, combined with proper fertilization to promote strong root growth. Consider your new lawn like a newborn baby: it will not grow without consistent care, including fertilizing, watering, and maintenance. Following these steps ensures your lawn establishes strong roots, grows evenly, and remains healthy and vibrant for years to come.
Aeration & Seeding a New Lawn
Improves Soil Structure: Aeration creates small holes in the soil, reducing compaction and allowing roots to grow deeper and stronger.
Enhances Seed-to-Soil Contact: Ensures grass seed reaches the soil, increasing germination rates and promoting even growth.
Increases Oxygen, Nutrient & Water Penetration: The holes allow oxygen, nutrients, and water to reach the roots, promoting healthy root development.
Reduces Thatch Build-Up: Breaks up layers of thatch, preventing it from blocking water and nutrients from reaching the roots.
Encourages a Stronger Lawn: Combining aeration with seeding results in thicker, healthier turf.
Promote Longevity: Proper aeration and seeding help establish a lawn that is more drought-resistant, resilient, and less prone to weeds.
Advantages of Lawn Rolling
Levels Uneven Areas: Helps smooth small bumps and dips, creating a flat, even surface for new lawns.
Improves Seed-to-Soil Contact: Gently presses grass seed into the soil, improving germination rates and ensuring even coverage.
Prepares Soil for Sod: Creates a stable, firm base for laying sod, reducing air pockets and improving root establishment.
Reduces Soil Settling Issues: Helps prevent future unevenness as the soil settles after installation.
Enhances Lawn Appearance: Creates a professional, uniform look for both seeded and sodded lawns.
Supports New Lawn Growth: By ensuring good contact between soil and seed, or firm base for sod, rolling promotes stronger, healthier root development.
Advantages of Slit Seeding
Direct Seed-to-Soil Contact: Slits cut into the soil allow seeds to be placed directly in the ground, improving germination rates.
Promotes Strong Root Growth: Seeds planted in slits can establish roots faster and grow deeper, leading to a healthier, more resilient lawn.
Reduces Soil Erosion: By embedding seeds in the soil, slit seeding helps prevent them from washing away on slopes or uneven terrain.
Improves Soil Penetration: Helps water, nutrients, and oxygen reach the seed zone more effectively, enhancing growth.
Ideal for Lawn Renovation: Perfect for overseeding bare or thinning areas, filling in patches, or rejuvenating older lawns.
Less Disturbance to Existing Grass: Minimizes disruption to established lawns while adding new grass for thicker turf.
Encourages Even Growth: Produces uniform coverage with reduced bare spots compared to broadcast seeding.
Fertilization for a New Lawn
Supports Root Establishment: Provides essential nutrients to help new grass develop strong, deep roots.
Promotes Rapid Growth: Encourages faster germination and thicker turf for a healthy, vibrant lawn.
Corrects Nutrient Deficiencies: Supplies nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium to ensure soil has what grass needs to thrive.
Enhances Stress Resistance: Helps young grass withstand drought, heat, and other environmental stresses.
Improves Soil Health: Fertilizers can boost microbial activity in the soil, aiding overall lawn development.
Ensures Long-Term Lawn Success: Proper fertilization during the first few weeks/months sets the foundation for a durable, low-maintenance lawn.
Custom Application Timing: Applied at the right intervals to match grass growth stages, maximizing effectiveness and reducing nutrient loss.
